Ken Habak OAM
Ken Habak OAM is the Chairperson of Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (2001–present). Ken has always been a strong advocate for services to multicultural communities in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and recently throughout NSW and the ACT via the expansion of MCCI's services to these areas.
Ken has been an active member of the community since migrating to Australia in 1970. He began his work as a volunteer by starting an Arabic school for Lebanese Australians in Wollongong. Since then he has continued to serve not only the Lebanese community, but all culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, recognising their need for someone to represent them. His knowledge of ethnic affairs and his passion for creating a more equitable society for all communities, continues to drive him to be an outstanding ambassador for all CALD organisations. Ken won NSW Volunteer of the Year in 2008 for his services to multicultural communities, and the Order of Australia Medal in 2010 for his services to multicultural communities in Australia.
