Cultural Detective Training
Cultural competency is essential for anyone working across the aged care sector in the provision of culturally appropriate services to consumers from CALD backgrounds. PICAC NSW & ACT recently undertook the Cultural Detective Facilitator Certification course, hosted by PICAC partners from South Australia, Multicultural Aged Care Inc.
The Cultural Detective Facilitator Certification is an interactive, engaging and practical course grounded in theory. It includes a range of materials that can assist people to better understand themselves, others, and the dynamics of communication.
Values, beliefs and cultural sense motivate our words and actions. Words and actions, however, are observable. Values and beliefs, on the other hand, take detecting (i.e. careful observation, analysis, intuition, discussing, and experimentation) in order to discover what lies beneath those words and actions.
PICAC NSW ACT also offers tailored cultural awareness training designed to meet the specific needs of aged care organisations. A standard training session runs for three hours and can accommodate up to 20 participants. The training package also includes practical training materials and an evaluation report on completion of the training. For more information about the cost of tailored training, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
